]]>Art can be defined & expressed through many avenues. Owner & Creative Director of BEIGE, Ashley Peeples, has always acknowledged the merit of art. She has curated a creative showroom of pieces from designers with unique & distinctive tastes. With that in mind, she also appreciates tattoo artistry, specifically minimal & fine line designs. Ashley discovered Miguel & valued his artistic style, so she reached out to him knowing that an artist that specializes in fine lines can be difficult to find. Out of her 14 tattoos, Miguel has done 10 of them and she cherishes each one. We had the honor of getting to ask Miguel a few questions about his journey of becoming an artist.
Have you always wanted to be an artist?
No, the tattoo thing happened at a very random time for me. I started getting professionally tattooed as soon as I turned 18. I always thought I would go to culinary school since I worked for a few restaurants before I started tattooing. I made some tattoo friends by getting tattooed and they saw I enjoyed drawing and painting graffiti. I asked if I could try doing a tattoo, they said yes and as soon as I did one, I knew that was it - It was something I wanted to pursue.I was sure about cooking, but art has always been something I was into since I was a kid. I’m so glad I met all those people back then as without them, I wouldn't be where I am now.
Was it your interest in art that led you to be a tattoo artist? Do you have any family members that are artists that inspired you? What kind of art did you do previous to being a tattoo artist?
Yes. I remember drawing cartoons I was into as a kid. The main inspiration came from all the murals and graffiti I saw being raised in Los Angeles that I would see on the freeways or next to the convenience store. Mainly religious imagery really got my attention thinking "how did they paint that so detailed?” I was mind blown as a kid seeing all that art. As I got older, I started messing around with som. e canvases & spray paint. Later on, I made a local friend that is currently well known for painting murals around the city that goes by XEMEX. I became friends with him and we painted together quite a bit to the point that it got us in trouble with the city. Total of 6 charges, $10,000 bail fines, and 3 year probation. After getting caught, I said “Well there’s gotta be another way to keep me occupied!” That’s when I discovered tattooing.
What was the first tattoo that you ever did?
First tattoo I ever did was in art class when I was 16 & I did it on myself. I did it on the palm of my hand with India ink and a sewing needle of the Los Angeles Dodgers logo. It's not there anymore, but that was my first one. After that, I started getting them professionally done at 18.
How many tattoos do you personally have?
The last tattoo I counted was tattoo number 13 and after that I lost count. Now I'm just focused on being completely covered before I turn 40. I got a good while and not much space left, but I'm getting closer to my goal. The only reason for that goal is that I’ve always heard the older you get, the more they hurt. So l'm just trying to be covered before that happens. I will say, 10 years ago it was way easier to get tattooed than now, so it’s very true.
You travel for work a lot. Where is your favorite place to visit and why?
I would have to say my favorite was Barcelona. It was a very memorable trip for me that helped me grow as an artist and as a person. I booked a ticket to Barcelona with no plans, no hotels booked, no research about the city or anything. I wanted it to be an adventure - I showed up and winged it the entire time. I made some friends, and I ended up working at LTW Tattoo. It was a shop that inspired me so much in my tattoo career since they liked to paint graffiti and I even got to paint with some of them right before I left. The food, the culture, the way of living, everything about that trip did something to me. I still talk about that trip till this day.
Where do you find your creative inspiration? What motivates you to create? Who are your biggest artistic influences?
I usually find my creative inspiration by traveling and meeting other tattoo artists. There's inspiration with people I work with as well but there's something about going to a different shop and being a guest artist. I like to see how they do things and see what inspires them to tattoo in their own style.
My biggest influences are some that don't even tattoo - I'd say Anthony Bourdain, Chad Koeplinger and Action Bronson. The one thing they all have in common is that they are all world travelers and are very passionate in what they do. Not to mention their passion for food. Chad is a well known worldwide tattooer - I aspire to be that one day.
How has your practice changed over time? What style of tattoos are your favorite to do/create?
I feel like it hasn't changed much. I like to do colorful tattoos mainly since it kind of reminds me of graffiti. Styles I like to do are traditional, black and grey, fine line, and lettering.
How would you define / describe your work?
Bold, minimal, with lots of color, or even fine lines. Tattoos you can tell what it is from across the street. Less is more.
What lessons have you learned that led you to become confident in your work?
I learned that being your authentic self gives you confidence because you're comfortable with who you are. Traveling helped me find my true self. It made me realize it's okay to be different.

]]>BEIGE believes that good dressing should be simple. The goal is to look good without trying too hard or taking an hour in the closet. A matching set is always a great asset to have in any wardrobe because you can mix-n-match within the pieces or trade one for another staple (e.g., denim, a white button up, or a cozy pullover). Each season you’ll find multiple sets in the showroom because we truly believe they make getting ready much less complicated.
]]>Co-ord dressing is now even easier with our newest brand, LeSet. The line offers elevated athleisure inspired loungewear sets that can be worn night in and night out. Founded by Lili Chemla, the brand’s classic pieces are made locally in Los Angeles. “Guided by the principles that one should never sacrifice comfort for style when they can have both, LESET delivers elevated essentials at an accessible price point.”

]]>With Summer days heating up, we’re being mindful to apply sunscreen daily to our skin. SPF should be a year-round, non negotiable necessity for everyone of every age since protecting your skin (especially your face!) is the best thing you can do to prevent aging, dark spots, and skin cancer. When applied every few hours, an SPF of 30 or higher will block the sun's harsh rays and keep your skin looking its best.
]]>
We recommend using a mineral based sunscreen because it will rub in sheer and work immediately when applied, so there’s no waiting to apply the rest of your routine or to go outside. Natural minerals reflect (rather than absorb) UVA & UVB rays to protect your skin from burning and aging. Because the minerals aren’t being absorbed into your skin, they are safe and gentle for even the most sensitive skin types. All natural mineral sunscreens are also safer for the environment and coral reefs. : )
Here are some great options from our favorite sustainable and all natural skin care line Salt & Stone:

Each scent will pique your interest in a completely different way- just as they did to us. The BEIGE team talks their current BYREDO perfume obsessions below:
I normally lean towards a more masculine fragrance but Rose of No Man’s Land pleasantly surprised me. The top note of black pepper creates a sweet and spicy blend that layers nicely with my woodsier fragrances.

New York City based artist, Rachel Schultz, is a woman of many talents. She’s a soon to be mother of two, a stylist/creative/marketing assistant, a social entrepreneur, and an artist of many mediums. While this multifaceted work-life balance is very much New York City, Schultz’s ability to move with the ebb and flow is as impressive as it is inspiring. She’s a busy woman that truly can do it all while managing to look fashionable and even more so effortless.
You are a busy woman – Wife, Mother, Artist, Creative Associate & Social entrepreneur. How do you find time to do it all?
Yes, it is definitely a busy and at times chaotic life! That being said, I wouldn’t have it any other way. Every single thing I work on from my art to my small social enterprise to motherhood are deeply connected to who I am, my passions and goals, so it’s easy to stay motivated. I have tried to fit into the traditional mold - going to an office and working on one thing then going home and doing it all over again - but it took the joy and life from me. I have always loved and felt at home in chaos, multitudes, a sort of collaged life. I enjoy connecting seemingly unrelated concepts, events, objects and making sense of it all- discovering the big picture. I think this is why at my most foundational level I am a “multi-hyphenate” person. I always dread the infamous question from strangers or new acquaintances: “What do you do?”. Not because I don’t wholeheartedly love and believe in everything I work on but so many people are confused when I don’t have a simple one-word answer. This is probably the only time I’m envious of those working strictly in one arena and their easy fluid reply of, “I’m a nurse”.
What are some ways we could better support artists like you outside of purchasing their work?
There are SO many ways to support an artist outside of buying their work. In no particular order: share their work with your network, connect them with people you know that work in their industry- whether a collaboration evolves or not simply connecting with others is helpful, moral support- a kind word goes a long way, and of course show your support by attending exhibitions, performances, readings, etc…

]]>Spending most of their time in the typical fashion bubbles of New York and LA, Brittney and Mia decided they needed to see what the rest of the country was wearing. They jumped in the car and traveled across the U.S. stopping in smaller cities along the way and seeking out independent retailers that could align with The Range. Together they have built a brand that is now commonly seen on celebs, but this powerhouse company all started on backroads.
It can’t be a coincidence that you both ended up in fashion. Who fueled your love for fashion?
Brittney: Our mom had great style and we actually grew up in the ballroom dance industry. Our parents owned ballroom dance studios and we grew up around glamorous dresses. I remember always sketching dresses and wanting to design them. We were always around fashion and seeing people express themselves through fashion.
Mia: Our dad too. He loved to dress up, and they were in a world where they could dress up. I think we definitely were influenced by them.
J.Lo famously wore The Range when premiering a new song on Instagram. I know that was a big moment for the brand. Who else are you dying to see wear The Range?
Brittney: We love Kate Moss- that would be a dream. We’ve had Sienna Miller and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley wear it, and they are two of our favorites. I’m loving Hailey Beiber’s style right now so to have something on her would be very cool.

]]>Ever since we followed ‘Steps Of Style’ on social media a few years ago, we’ve only become more charmed with the fashion and lifestyle guru that is Amy Dreyer. For BEIGE Magazine Issue 2, local writer and BEIGE stylist, Malina Tabor, got to chat with Amy about her life and favorite things.
]]>Amy Dreyer, creator of Steps of Style, embodies everything we love about summer. She is a travel junkie, the queen of easy fashion and knows how to have a good time. As a mom of five, Dreyer’s laid back approach to style translates throughout her life. Her home, her vacations and most definitely her outfits are equal parts effortless and glamourous.
Amy featured in the Rachel Comey Founder Sweatshirt
What’s your go-to look when battling the heat of summer?
I love wearing one-piece swimsuits as tops. You stay cool and are prepared if the day leads you to a lake, pool or beach adventure. Also, I’m into anything mini...mini skirt or mini dresses. I like to pair them with a slide or sandal because it feels less fussy and gives a more laid back, summer feel.
What’s the one thing you always need to feel “dressed”?
Confidence. I know it’s cliche, but it’s so true. It doesn’t matter if I have the “It” bag, the perfect shoe, or even wearing makeup, If I don’t have confidence in myself the entire vibe falls flat. Whether you are wearing a swimsuit or a teddy coat with combat boots, you have to rock it with your individuality and make it your own.

For our second issue of BEIGE Magazine, we had the chance to interview one of our most beloved designers and biggest inspirations, Anine Bing. Read the BEIGE Journal for a sneak peek.
]]>With her blunt blonde hair and modelesque stature, Anine Bing might appear like another LA it-girl, but the distinguished designer is a self-made fashion mogul. She was introduced to the fashion industry through modeling at age 15 and shortly after started ‘Anine’s World’- a personal style blog with fashion how-tos and tips. Following a successful online closet sale and the realization of her wide-spread style influence, Anine and husband/business partner, Nicolai, launched the namesake line together in 2012 from their garage. Now close to a decade later, the fashion powerhouse has over 10 storefronts around the world and is offered at many specialty stores.
It must be exciting when you spot a stranger in Anine Bing. Any memorable moments?
It’s always SO exciting for me, it truly never gets old. My most fond recent memory was when we had just opened our Sydney store last year. I sat down for dinner after the opening event and the woman next to me was wearing an ANINE BING t-shirt. It was so exciting to see someone wearing the brand in a new market, and I loved being able to chat with and connect to her about the brand!
In 2019, the brand launched a capsule with world renowned photographer Terry O’Neill. Being a big fan of his, what was that like for you?
It was such a dream come true for me and the brand. He was such an iconic photographer and exuded creativity. His images have been on my moodboards for years, so to be able to incorporate them into my designs was a full 360 moment for me.

]]>When you shop at BEIGE you’re not just investing in your wardrobe; You’re investing in a better future for the environment. We only bring in the best brands who put a focus on reducing waste, eliminating their carbon footprint, and have sustainable practices in place. Today we’re highlighting a handful of our favorites who are shaping the industry to a place where sustainable fashion is an attainable reality. Whether it’s by using recycled materials or donating a percentage of sales to a bigger cause, any small step that promotes a better future for all of us, is important. This Earth Day, sustainability never looked so good.
]]>ST. AGNI –
We only invest in designers that share a commitment to slow fashion and produce pieces that can last a lifetime. St. Agni, a luxury brand based in Australia, is the perfect example of “less is more”. By only ordering to meet demand and keeping stock levels low, St. Agni aims to cut out as much excess waste as possible. The latest collection comprises TENCEL, linen, hemp, silk, yak, organic cotton, wool and unique blends- all biodegradable fabrics. This season’s synthetic-free collection is RTW 100% natural. View their responsibility commitment here.
NANUSHKA –
Nanushka is known for their vegan leather and eco-friendly materials. “Our vision is to build a sustainable future.” Every piece is made in Hungary or Serbia, where the brand’s designers work together with pattern makers and local manufacturers to help reduce C02 emissions. In 2019 the brand announced in their sustainability report that by 2025, the collections will be 100% sustainable, with full transparency and traceability across their whole supply chain.
THEMOIRè –
Themoirè is one of BEIGE’s newest yet most sustainable brands. Their aim is to create the lowest possible environmental impact both ethically and ecologically by creating pieces with only reused or recycled materials. This stands true for their products, tags and packaging. A percentage of all Themoirè’s profits are donated to organizations that are committed to climate change. Through their partnership with Tree-Nation, Themoirè, along with their customers, are able to plant a tree and support local communities with Eden Reforestation Projects. View their sustainability project here.
BOYISH –
If you haven’t worn a pair of Boyish yet, here’s your sign to do your wardrobe a favor and invest in a pair of their sustainable denim. In 2020 they released a sustainability report to maintain transparency and share their part in bettering the environment for future generations. They launched their fiber guidelines last year along with their fiber traceability map. Not only are Boyish jeans produced with ⅓ of the water that it typically takes to make a pair of jeans, but all dyes are natural/plant based and the brand is completely cruelty-free.

In honor of Earth Day, every order placed today will be packaged with our limited edition reusable tote- locally printed by Electric Ghost. Let’s take a minute today (and everyday) to slow down and reflect on all that Mother Earth has provided. Love what you already have and join us in taking the necessary steps to build a sustainable wardrobe.

]]>Special things are coming for our Spring – Summer 2021 collection. Last week we announced the addition of ‘BEIGE home’ and now we’re letting you in on our complete list of brands that will be arriving soon- aka, new designers for you to love and wear.
]]>Each piece has been thoughtfully chosen by founder and creative director, Ashley Peeples, with focus on exceptional quality (as always). Expect to see more off-duty looks paired with sharp, unique designs in our preferred neutral palette.
The Range is an everyday uniform line from sister duo Brittney and Mia Rothweiler. The two combined their industry know-how with good friend David Helwani and launched the brand in the Fall of 2017. Based in NYC, The Range defines the three ‘less’s of style- seasonless, ageless, and effortless.
STAUD was co-founded by former Reformation fashion director Sarah Staudinger and partner George Augusto in 2015. The line is based on the idea that fashion should not only empower women, but be accessible too. Collections are vintage inspired with a focus on sophisticated shapes and uncompromising quality.
‘Contemporary Refinement’ encapsulates the motto of Reike Nen, whose contrast of regular/irregular, flexible/inflexible, and raw/processed are reflected in each piece. The designer, Rei Yoon Hongmi, launched the Seoul based brand in 2010 after Rei’s own name. Every collection represents fluidity, where all are accepted regardless of nationality, sex, and age.
Established in Milan in 2016, Themoire is a handbag line that amplifies environmentally responsible practices, production, and values. Each collection is made up of minimal, feminine designs that compliment your life and wardrobe- no matter the season.
Coming soon this Spring – Summer to the BEIGE showroom. The BEIGE home collection will include decor accents, new scents for your space, and much more.

]]>Our first issue of the BEIGE Magazine was produced through collaboration in a season of distancing. Since special projects were delayed and cancelled, we thought it was important to provide a physical, lasting reference to this season's inspiration. Our pursuit to display in-house pieces and amplify the voices that move us are presented through a collection of written text and imagery.
]]>The BEIGE team spent many hours on and off set, and we are optimistic that our intention and hard work is fully captured in every page of BEIGE Magazine. We hope that you will find inspiration through this project for seasons to come.
Grab a copy in-store or online now. Be sure to tag us on Instagram @beige_lr and stay tuned for a BEIGE giveaway from Nov 18 - 20.

]]>Buying for the next Autumn/Winter season is my favorite time of year. Getting an inside look at what’s to come from our beloved brands is exciting as it is inspiring. While I love all things sun and sand, Fall market is my go-to choice because I can see all of the styling options of our pieces laid out together to form a cohesive picture.
]]>
While choosing pieces for FW20, I opted for classic looks that are timeless and transitional, similar to the likes of 90s icons Princess Diana and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy. Those laid-back yet poised 90s influenced details were noted throughout plenty of my NYC showroom visits- all perfectly fitting for this season of life and the shop. We’re sticking to keeping things easy and straightforward.
Our upcoming collection will offer a variety of oversized blazers, cozy knits, and unfailing penny loafers in a tonal palette of rich earthy browns and comforting creams.
Many thanks to our incredible brands for allowing me to browse their beautiful collections and to our readers for keeping up with us season after season. I hope you enjoy the pieces to come as much as I did choosing them.
xx,
Ashley
