There's something about finding a vintage piece for your wardrobe. First, there is the thrill of the hunt. Searching aimlessly through racks of clothing not really knowing what you're looking for, but knowing you'll know when you find it. Sometimes the odds are few and far between - which builds the anticipation of the next vintage hunt. And then, there's the excitement of finding a piece that fits you like it was made for you. Wherever or whenever it was made, no matter its story or previous owner - it was destined to be in your closet.
You know what they say, one man's junk is another man's treasure. That statement is definitely true in the fashion world - every trend comes back around eventually. Which has made vintage shopping a trend of its own. We all love the idea of being the only person to own an item. Uniqueness adds value, and any person that's into fashion wants to add value to their closet. (Even better when the value isn't monetary.)
And while we love getting brand new items, there’s something different about acquiring a vintage piece. It's new to you, but it has history. Its own story if you will. Mixing the old with the new creates a beautiful and timeless curation of effortless style. Who doesn't want that?
Not only is your closet benefitting from vintage shopping, but our environment will thank you as well. Second to oil, the clothing and textile industry is the largest polluter in the world. Statistics show that consumers throw away shoes and clothing (versus recycle), an average of 70 pounds per person, annually. And up to 95% of the textiles that are land filled each year could be recycled. Clothing is such a major part of our lives, but often times - like most things - once we are done with it, it becomes our garbage. I encourage you to not only recycle your clothing by consigning, donating, or repurposing - but to also open your closet to receiving recycled items as well.
